Science Trends, Issues and Advances Impacting the Life Sciences Industry in 2015

With 2014 proving to be another highly successful year for biotech IPOs and the number of FDA approved drugs outpacing 2013’s high, keeping up with the latest innovations in the Life Science space is a career must.

Tools such as DNA sequencing and gene chip technology are opening up new frontiers in our understanding and diagnosis of disease. Gene therapy and genome editing have the potential to cure a range of inherited disorders. Devices such as magnetic nanoparticles and the electronic pancreas may one day keep patients from repeat hospital visits.

All of these advances require and are enabled by collaboration between experts from diverse fields. Learn about the most exciting advances of the past year from BioTech Primer, the experts who teach Life Science professionals the regulatory, commercial and scientific considerations used to bring a drug, diagnostic or device to market.

To kick off our BOLD programs this year we have invited guest speaker Dr. Emily Burke, Director of Curriculum at BioTech Primer, to present an update on today's biotech trends, issues and advances.  Following Dr. Burke's presentation, we have invited Dr. Toby Freedman, author and founder of her own recruiting firm, Synapsis Research, to speak to the trends in the life science industry that she's researched and observed in her business.

Trends, Issues and Advances to be presented:

  • The next generation DNA sequencing that is redefining translational medicine
  • The important and increasing role of companion diagnostics in drug development
  • Advances in gene therapy and genome editing
  • Diagnostic applications of gene chips
  • Life-altering medical devices currently in the clinic

Attend this event and you will:

  • Be more informed about the science behind your - and your competitors - products
  • Meet your colleagues in the life science industry
  • Learn about core technologies that will change the way we think about medicine and healthcare!
Refreshments will be served.  All are welcome to attend.

Toby Freedman is an author and Founder/President of Synapsis Search.  A scientist by training, she transitioned into business as a recruiter, writer, and entrepreneur.  Her book Career Opportunities in Biotechnology and Drug Development was published by Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press and provides a comprehensive overview of the many careers in the life sciences industry. Toby founded her own recruiting firm, Synapsis Search, which is focused on life science R&D and business placements. Previously she worked at BioQuest, an executive retained recruiting firm, and before that was Director of Business Development at SLIL Biomedical, a drug discovery company developing therapeutics for cancer and other diseases. Toby earned a Ph.D. in molecular biology/biology from UNC Chapel Hill, a B.S. from the University of California, and as an NIH Fellow, conducted postdoctoral research at Harvard University and at the University of Texas-Austin.
